I have a few questions about periodontal disease? I will award 10 points to the best answerer?
the diagnosis needs to be based on your dentists professional opinion... often times he will have his hygienist take measurements between the tooth and the gums, the normal range is 2-3 mm anything deeper does require special periodontal treatment...if the numbers range 4-6 this can usually be treated non-surgical with a procedure called deep cleaning or root planing. this procecude will tighten the gums back to the teeth and shrink the pockets showing smaller numbers...if the numbers are larger often times the deep cleaning and a surgical procedure will need to be done in conjuction to save the remaining bone and teeth. the patient must be diligent on home care as well as 3month cleaning intervals...
