Does getting your septum hurt?

Just so you know, a piercing gun does a lot of trauma to the skin so you shouldn't use that, if it's a good needle it won't hurt. My friend had his septum done by his girlfriend and he said it hurt really bad because she screwed up so many times and had to poke him so many times but he let it heal without the jewelry and got it later by another friend who knew what he was doing and said it wasn't too bad.
