More information about MRSA?

My wife and I have been asked to consider adopting one of two sets of siblings who have become wards of the state. In each sibling group, one or both of the children contracted MRSA. I did some limited Internet research on MRSA, but am still not exactly sure what the infection is and if it is curable. If it isn't curable, exactly how does it get spread and will my wife and I be at risk of contracting the infection? Any information or links to sources will be appreciated.
